The Minister of Peace held a discussion with United Nations officials regarding the return of internally displaced persons (IDPs)
The Minister of Peace, State Minister for Federalism and Conflict Management, Honorable Mr. Cherugeta Genene, received and spoke to various officials from the United Nations.
On November 11, 2024 The Ministry of Peace held a discussion with United Nations officials regarding the return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their villages and their permanent establishment.
Honorable Mr. Cherugeta Genene stated that the Ministry of Peace is carrying out various activities to facilitate the return of citizens who have been displaced due to conflict on a national level, based on their own volition and desire to return to their homes and establish themselves in a sustainable manner.
Honorable Mr. Cherugeta added that currently there are 3.1 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) in our country due to various conflicts. He mentioned that a three-year project has been designed to bring the displaced people back to their villages, and we are in the process of starting work.
The officials from the United Nations thanked him for the presentation and expressed their commitment to providing various forms of support to ensure the work's success.
