The draft decree for the protection and support of internally displaced persons was held by the senior officials of the federal and regional governments (Thursday, May 18, 2023, Ministry of Peace).

As it is a legal framework designed to create a coordinated system by enacting laws in line with international laws to prevent internal displacement caused by man-made and natural causes, a serious violation of human rights, breach of peace, social, economic and political crisis and to provide necessary protection and support to displaced people, states and other people, states and other stakeholders discussed on and approved the draft.

Peace Minister's Advisor Ambassador Eshetu Dese, who gave the opening speech, stated that the absence of a special law to prevent and control internal displacement is the root cause for displacement of citizens in various areas of the country.
